Is it just my imagination or is road v. mtb riding a complete opposite when it comes to riding technique?
I'm new to mtb and the first couple of times out I JUST ABOUT KILLED MYSELF. I'm so used to leaning in corners ,pulling on the bar, standing up on steep climbs etc... Has anyone had the same revelations? I just wanted to make sure I'm not crazy!!!!! Vikeaz***

Yes it is! It is a completely different "technique". Riding off orad for 20 plus years I can say that riding on the road is easy in comparison. Just go slow at first take your time and enjoy it don't try to make a competition out of it.

I ride a very simular style on a rode bike or mt. bike, both standing on climbs and pulling on yhe bars. Takes some getting used to though.!!!!

Well, for one thing, you're not going to be going nearly as fast on an MTB unless you have a death wish, because of that you're not going to be spinning fast. Spinning and speed helps balance, so you have to learn new ways on an MTB since you'll be going slow and mashing the gears for a lot of the time. A lot of times on the MTB I have zero forward speed and have to balance or fall over. It takes practice.

I do ride both but started on an MTB. When I have a need for speed and spinning, I ride the road bike. I enjoy them equally well.

Good luck, dont kill yourself!

I just thought I'de add a revelation I had when I first got my road bike a couple years back. Stopping quickly from high speeds takes longer especially if the roads are moist. I had my bike for 2 weeks when I locked up both front and rear doing about 15. It's really different, but that's why each is cool in thier own way.

I also just purchased my first MTB. Took it out for the first time last week. Sufice to say, it was a learning experience!! I still am more at home on the road, but also am eager to learn the MTB ropes. Ride long, and prosper.
