Super Wal-Marts sell Uvex safety glasses in their optometry shops. You can get ones with clear and smoked lenses; maybe even yellow (not sure about that).

You can get replacement lenses, too.

These glasses are so cheap (under $10) that I buy one of each color. When I ride, I wear the smoked pair if it's sunny and carry the clear pair in my jersey pocket. If the sun goes behind clouds and I want clear lenses, I just swap glasses on the fly. No fiddling with swapping lenses on a single frame.

At an Air Force PX I found a pair of smoked Uvex glasses intended for lawn mower safety. What's cool about these is (1) they were really cheap, and (2) they are actually pretty stylish. Kind of raked back like Oaklies.

Uvex makes great glasses. You might know them because of their ski goggles and motorcycle goggles.

I can't see paying $50 - $100 for a pair of bike glasses that I'll probably lose, that have nose pieces that come unglued and fall off, and that don't work as well as these el-cheapos from Wal-Mart.

Nuff said.

Do they have 100% UV and blue light protection? Being safety glasses they may be designed for indoor use. With my vision being the second best thing I was born with, 20/13, I wouldn't mess around with too cheap of lenses riding in the bright sun.I wear Bolle not because its a name brand, but because I trust their lenses and are comfortable wearing all day.Trust me I'm into good deals but my eyes and head are worth extra protecton when riding.Like a sign says at my LBS 'Do you have $100 dollar feet but a $10 head?:D

That's a good point about UV protection. I'll look into it. I still like the clear lens for cloudy days. And to think I used to ride with NO eye protection, not just from the sun but from flying objects.

And I second your LBS's message about helmets. I was literally "saved by the Bell" one time in Salt Lake City. The emergency room report began, "This helmeted rider..." did not lose consciousness, etc., etc.

I checked with a local Wal-Mart optometry shop, and the UVEX safety glasses do have UV protection. I don't know about "blue light."

Maybe K-Mart glasses have "blue light" protection. Small joke there. Never mind.

Also, the shaded safety glasses are probably not for indoor use. The clear ones, yes.

Thanks for raising your concerns.

Another find on "sunglasses" is the local safety supply house. They normally care a large variety of ANSI approved, shatter resistant, 100% UV blocking safety glasses is shapes and colors that will make the big O cry. and they are very inexpensive.

Uh, I don't think so.
