Anybody here from/visit Asheville? I'm going riding there for a few days in early June and was wondering if any of the shops are fixie/track friendly...I'm not taking my track bike as there is way too much road and mtb (Tsali/Pisgah) riding I want to do there, but I always visit local shops and would love to find one that knows fixed gear. Thankx in advance.

You should take your track bike because they have a velodrome. Well actually they call it the 'Mellodrome' because it is a converted old car race track and the angles are not too steep. But they race bikes there so it's cool. I am really bummed, sort of, because I will be in Alaska when they have there track championships June 18. You should check it out.

Thanks - I may have to reconsider...would be oh so cool to actually ride on a track even if it has very shallow banking...thanks again.

Its a nice town. Lots of hippies, but its a great town to ride around in. Right downtown on the main street there is a bike shop just like a block south of the big phallic pointy thing at the center of town that stocks track bikes. Seem pretty nice too. I didnt get to check out the mellodrome, but it seems pretty cool.

The sister shop of one of my favorite shops here is down there. I don't know if they stock track stuff down there, but if their place here is any indication you'll meet some friendly people there. It's called biowheels

I lived in asheville for a month. Biowheels is a bunch of pushy jerks (from my encounters and many others). Go to probike it's in west asheville it's near the mellowdrome (ps, it's a sweet track, very shallow turns).

if you go to the mellowdrome, and are into burrito's go to the Lucky Otter, great burrito's, the white trash bbq is amazing.

Hearns in Asheville is supposed to be "America's 2nd oldest bike shop". Last time I was in town they had several track bikes in there...good shop
