Commuting - Disc Brakes + Fenders = Arrg!!!

Is there anyone out there running full fenders with disc brakes on a MTB or hybrid? I've been running into probs fitting my Giant Sedona LX.

The LBS said they could get me full fenders no probs. They got me a set of Freddy Fenders,but they wouldn't work. The front wouldn't work at all(no place for the struts). The rear would fit on the right,but on the left side the disc brake was in the way. I prolly could've mounted the struts to the frame with clamps(the rubber-covered steel ones with the eyelets,can't remember the technical name),but neither I nor the shop had any. I needed the bike for commuting in the rain all this week,so I returned the Freddys and went with a front from a set I already had and a SKS X-3 on the rear(see pic). The front worked fine,but I am not too happy with the rear. I still wound up with road spray on my back. Not a stripe,but tiny bits of gravel/sand all over. The full fenders on my Trek work like a charm.

Anyone out there running a MTB or hybrid with fenders that work? Any helpful suggestions? I'm thinking about pop-riveting an extra piece of rubber to the end of the X-3 to see if that helps.

Do a search for posts by me with the words OCR and touring. My Giant OCR Touring has disc brakes and full fenders on it, u just have to bend the stays a little.

Use the method described in slvoid's earlier posts, or the circular clamps - I've used both with the Freddy fenders. The clamps can be purchased at Lowe's in either the hardware or electrical department. Although they come in different sizes, chances are they won't be quite right for your seat stay or fork tubes, so if you use them you will probably have to stack a few flat washers between the ends.

As slvoid, I ride the Giant OCR Touring. I use SKS fenders. There is a small bend I had to make to get around the disk brake adjustment button, but no problem with fenders. You could always go to OMM [old man mountain] and get easier fenders to attach, but they are pricier than the SKS's. But for the extra bucks you get good customer service and someone knowledgeable to talk to about your particular bike and advantages and disadvantages of solutions.

Thanks guys. I'm going to look into getting just a rear Freddy Fender since the front is too hard to fit,and the one I've got there now seems to do the trick. I am going to keep the X-3 and possibly get a MTB front to match for use this winter in the snow;I had probs this winter with my Trek's fenders loading up.
