i think i need to be in the market for a new fork for my 80s univega conversion (read, 1" tube, made for 27" though 700 would be ok).

i want a steel, threaded, low profile fork that will fit into my grad student budget (so custom is out of the question.) i can deal with a brake hole but it would not be needed.

i found the chrome one at bike cult which is cool but i'm not a fan of straight forks - i find them to be like weezer: something everyone i know and respect seems to enjoy but which i find repulsive. clearly i am wrong but that does not make me want one.

i also found the surly steamroller fork but i don't want black or logos (this isn't a deal breaker - i am handy with a rattle can - so, with some encouragement, i might go that route).

there is a tange one but it has eyelets for mounting a rack and i would prefer a fork without these (also not a deal breaker if i can be convinced).

e-bay has been no help as of late and the ridiculousness of atlanta's craiglist as already been covered. it could be that on my next thriftstore run i find exactly what i need but, because i am now looking for it, the goodwill gods will do everything in their vast powers to make sure i don't. please forgive me if i have overlooked something - i googled, i froogled and searched this site. any help will be greatly appreciated.

How is Atlanta for garage sales? It is the season. I understand the difficulty of cruising around suberbia if you have no way to cruise. Spring is also the time to clean out the basement/boiler room and toss it into the bin.

Cavern is selling some sweet Columbus forks for $30 CAD. Chrome, non-straight.

What is so repulsive about weezer? Not that im a huge fan but i am just curious to see what you dont like about them. I mean C'mon the first 2 ablums were pretty rockin. you werent EVEN cool unless you had the blue album when it came out.

do you have a link for that chrome columbus fork? my half-arsed google search didn't turn up any thing.

though i've never - despite some heroic atempts - been cool, i think it might just be an age thing. i had already been through a deep Pavement thing so i wrote weezer off as radio-friendly pavement ... just prior to writing pavement off as jerks. and i couldn't buy the tortured artist schtick of pinkerton after the video for buddy holly. and my drummer left for a band that did "the sweater song" live ... in 1995 (as if that makes a difference). this is all contextual and has nothing to do with the band itself. i give up because i understand why no one older or younger than me knows that the stone roses' first album is the greatest album ever. period. is any body with me?
