Just joined the forum (obviously) because I'm getting back into riding after about an 8 year and 50 extra lb hiatus. Just sold 3 bikes to clean house and start fresh. I had a 1997 Trek 8000 mountain bike, 1997 Lemond Buenos Aries road bike, and a 1995 GT mountain bike. I'm currently in the market for a new bike and I'm leaning toward a high end cyclocross bike as a good all purpose bike. I also play electric bass and work at a Mercedes dealer.

Welcome. A high end cyclocross isn't a bad way to go especially if you do a mix of riding. The downside is obvious - it doesn't perform a s awell as a mountian bike of difficult terraine or technical stuff nor does it goes as fast as a road bike on smooth conditions. But if you want only one, that's the way to go.

By the way, I'm on my way to drop my car off at Amercican Service Center. Is that where you work?
