I got this question on another board and thought I would pose it here...
Do you carry any kind of first aid kit on your rides? Do you carry a different one for Mountain Biking, Road Cycling or Commuting? I don't except for adventure races where they are required.

My dad was a Paramedic for over 7 years for Houston Fire Dept. Guess who taught first aid when I was in Boy Scouts? He has always had a first aid kit in the house, and one in the truck. No surprise I have one too. Pending on what/where I am riding, but I usually have some anti biotic cream, alcohol wipes, and bandaids. I got my dad into riding, and really no surprise he carries his type of kit. I so want to get him a seat bag to put the stuff in, he looks really funny with the High Vis orange, boy scout fanny pack on the handlebars.

I carry one -- probably a leftover from years in the Boy Scouts (Be Prepared and all that). It has bandaids, antibiotic cream, adhesive tape and a few gauze squares in case of bigger "booboos". I just throw it in a pocket of my commuter bag and there it stays until I need it. So far I haven't touched it.

I carry a small one in my seat bag that I picked up at K-Mart. It's a small plastic bag with just enough stuff for one or two small scrapes or cuts. The one time I needed it, the scrape was 4"x8" and an ambulance was needed!
I carry a small kit in a zip lock bag, band-aids, neosporin, disposal vinyl gloves,
vitamin I, gauze, small bottle alcohol hand sanitizer. I use the hand sanitizer alot
as there isn't usually soap and water at the pit stops.

I carry 1 anke brace, 1 wrist brace, smelling salts,q-tips with iodine, knife, small scissors thermal blanket, asprin, benadryl, gauze, small roll of medical tape, 2 instant cold packs, H2O purifying tablets and 2 sets of 3.0PDS sutures. I have had to use all of it at one time or another although I have only used the sutures on myself to keep a wound from opening up more until I got home to properly clean it.
Sounds like a lot but I have come across many cyclist who rode above their skill level or misjudged a stunt and needed some type of first aid (the smelling salts realy come in handy when I am with my free riding buddies :D ) until the paramedics arrive. It does not have everything I would like but it works for emergency situations.
