From the story, sounds like a drunk....

Now remember, Boys, this is Texas. We here don't cotton to no girly bicycle riders messing up the front end of a good Ford truck. Failure to give aid and DUI are all we're gonna deal with here.

The motorist deserves several years of hard time and permanent driver's license revocation.

If the witnesses accounts are accurate , accelerating and swerving into the bike lane, and can be proven in court this transcends anything in the vehicle code. The proper name for that action is murder. Perhaps it's good that this happened in TX after all.

While my feelings overall on the death penalty are lukewarm perhaps if the driver of this "green pickup" takes a one way ride to eternity strapped on a gurney this crap might become a little rarer.

Just be careful what you wish for. The death penalty gives some people the impression that killing can sometimes be 'justified'. The last thing I want is some moron deciding that killing me is 'justified' because I supposedly held them up for three seconds.
I think a permanent ban from driving and a car confiscation would be more effective here. Not to mention a few years in a cell getting to know "Bubba" quite intimately.

Maybe a "Clockwork Orange" type of behavior mod for people like this, to give them grand mal siezures or some equivalent if they ever even think of driving again.

and sterilization is in Order, because if you sterilize this idiots their tribe will no longer increase, if they are given light jail; sentence:crash: :crash: and you nip the problem in the bud....

Mentioning the death penalty in my first post may have been a mistake since it is a debate in and of itself and could easily pull the thread off topic so I'll withdraw the idea. Probably couldn't prove 1st degree murder anyways.

The point is that if what witnesses described is eventually proven in court the driver has done something that deserves serious sanction. The event as described sounds like a deliberate act. In that case the truck is an actual weapon, no different than a gun, knife, axe-handle or whatever. To talk of "permanent revocation of driving rights" and "several years in jail" is downright loopy. The driver needs to spend the greater part of the rest of his life in jail at the very least. That's what would happen to a citizen if he chose to shoot and kill 2 people. Again this incident, as described, is no different.

Send him/her to jail and at the very least keep him/her in jail until they're too old to drive (there's your revocation and sterilization all at once).

And hopefully there'll be 6-7 "Bubbas" in the cell with him.

Here in Michigan, the legislature has recently passed a few new laws. One requires that motorists on Interstate highways pull out of the rightmost lane when passing a stopped State Trooper. This law was passed because of State Troopers being run down by motorists during traffic stops. The other law doubles fines and provides for up to 15 years in prison for killing a highway construction worker with your car.

My problem with these laws is that I believe that if you kill someone with your car you should expect to spend 15-20 years in prison. This protection should be extended to everyone, not just construction workers and police.

I believe that the only way to make people really consider the effect of their actions is to have very stiff penalties for injuring and killing folks with your automobile. If you think this is too stiff a penalty, remember the other guy got a death sentence.

Agreed. I was merely saying that I think jailtime is probably a better thing than the death penalty. I agree, 50 years in jail would not be unjustified.
