I am thinking of buying a recumbent for dayt rides and touring to overcome neck and shoulder discomfort and have tried an Optima Lynx's which I liked. However, I found that at moderate speeds there was a lot of road shudder through the seat. Everything seemed to be pretty tight and the dealer was not sure what the story was. Basically it seemed as if my vision was being shaken rapidly up and down. This happened both when freewheeling down a slight hill and when pedalling hard on a sealed suburban street. Does anyone have any ideas on what was happening or whether this is common?

Well, it's got rear suspension. Maybe the rear shock isn't adjusted properly, so it's either too hard or too soft. Is this the only one you tried?

Well, yes, we did try adjusting the shocks but to little effect. I tried an M5 briefly but recumbents are not very think on the ground inhtis part of the world so I have not had the chance to try other bikes.

A new bike, bent or not, shouldn't shudder. There is something wrong - perhaps a wheel out of true or a tire mis-mounted?
