If only I had a speedometer :( ...

I was FLYING down Ashton, it's a .9 mile straightaway, slightly downhill, and for the first time ever I had a strong tailwind. I was spinning in top gear... Cars were barely passing me! The speed limit is 35mph and people normally speed along there, so really wish I knew how fast I was going.

But it was a beautiful sunny morning, cool enough and breezy enough I wasn't sweating much. Of course the other part of my commute was heading INTO the wind so I had a nice slow cooldown time  .

Congrats Eggplant -- I know that feeling when a slight downhill gives a big ego boost. On the downhill part of my trip I often catch up to and sometimes pass riders who passed me earlier on the flats. It doesn't last long since they pass me as the trail flattens out, but boy for a little while it feels so cool.

The best happened a few weeks ago when I passed a roadie all decked out in lycra with a bike with all the gadgets. As I passed on my hybrid I heard him muttering and sure enough within the next 1/4 to 1/2 mile he passed me pumping away until he had put a good bit of distance between us. I hope I didn't ruin his day, but I've never made anybody mutter when I passed them before. It was a great morning to ride in -- a welcome break from the past few days of rain. I'm looking forward to the ride home -- shorts, tshirt and the raingear tucked away out of sight.

Man it was great. :D

I was about halfway down the road and I passed another bike, the guy was waiting on a cross street to turn onto the same road I was on. He gave me a thumbs up :). All I had time for was a yelled "Good morning!"

i came down the American River Bike Trail, and on one of the hills was going 25 mph without pedaling. Wheee!

Reminds me of the joke:
What would you do if you got a ticket for going 35 mph on your bicycle in a 25 mph zone?
FRAME IT!

That sounds great! The fastest I have gotten on my commuter/hybrid (according to the GPS unit) was 32mph going up Madison Avenue. Right before I hit a pothole that claimed 2 spokes :P I have a new wheel now! Those long gentle downhills are so much better than the steep stuff. Any sort of a hill in NYC that isn't a bridge is pretty damn exciting no matter how you look at it :)
