Im living in Japan so I cant buy an Orange that has been put together by Orange but there is a company here that imports Orange MsIsle frames and builds them to their own spec.
I looked at buying the components myself but this is far more expensive.
My only problem is that I have been offered a 2001 model at a discount price but the 2002 model although more expensive has a higher spec.
Both bikes has LX throughout apart the 2002 model having a XT rear deurallier.
The Forks have been given the wrong names in the Japanese brochure, but they appear to be Marzocchi Z1 wedge on the 2001 model and Marzocchi MXC ECC on the 2002 model.
The 2001 model has a Shimano Deore crank while the 2002 has a FC M440. (but I plan on replacing the crank with a 3 piece, so I dont care about this)
The 2001 model has Alex DV22 rims while the 2002 has Mavic F 219 rims.
The major difference is that the 2001 version has Avid Rival brakes while the 2002 version has Shimano M525 hydaulic discs.
Everything else is pretty much the same.
Oh and if I buy the new model I can choose the colour!!
The 2001 model is on sale at the equivalent of $1330 US or 870 UK pounds.
The 2002 model is going to be aprox $1880 US or 1230 UK pounds.
For the price difference I could get myself a nice set of Hope or Hayes discs, or get a set of M525s and save myself some money
(that I will need for my crank and the chain guide Im getting)
What Im asking is ... are the other differences ie. Fork, Rims, Rear Deurallier worth the extra asking price? or should I snap up the 2001 model and put discs on it?
Anyone have experience with either of those forks?
Ive never had disc brakes before, are they a pain in the ass to look after or pretty easy. (Im soo mechanicaly ********)
I dont mend my bikes (i take them to the shop) I dont understand my bikes(I ask others opinions)
I just ride.
