Okay, I've searched and couldn't find an exact answer to my question, so here goes. . . I was walking down the street today and saw some arch thing on a mountain bike and got thinking whether someone makes this so as to screw into the caliper brake hole enabling someone to use either v brakes or canti brakes without having to get braze-ons. I'm sorry if this is a tired subject, but I did search. Anyway, now that I have your attention, can you use v-brakes and canti brakes interchangably? As in with the same braze ons? If this is possible, it would be my first foray into brakes that aren't caliper. Thanks

Vs and cantis use the same mount stud.

This is true, but remember you won't be able to use the same levers for cantis as Vs. The Vs require about double the cable pull if I remember correctly. There are some adapaters, which are just offset pullies that you can buy to make them work. I'm not sure if they are still available though.

SimonThere are levers that adapt to either.

The answer to your original question is that there are adapter plates to mount linear pull brakes (or canty's) on bikes that don't have the required mounting studs. Check the BMX catalogues to find one. Don't expect to find one on any of my bikes.
