i just got a new road bike, the left side shifter is pushed in to center. i want to push it out a bit. before i pull it apart and have pieces flying everywhere, i thought i'd check on the standard procedure.

:DYou could just push it back. The clamp is likely a bit loose. There is a groove on the outside of the shifter body that runs down under the rubber hood. slide a a 5mm hex wrench down groove to loosen and tighten retaining bolt.Nothing needs to come apart.
