I've been riding xc for a few months now with hayes disc brakes. Disc brakes are by far the way to go... when they are adjusted right. The problem arose when I installed a new fork (skareb super 2005). My hayes disc brake caliper will not move far enough towards the middle of the fork. The rotor always rubs on the inside brake pad even when the caliper is as far in as it can go. My LBS suggested I file the mounting holes in the calipers to be slightly larger, allowing them to move farther towards the middle of the fork.
This seems like too much to me. I don't want to make any permanent alterations to my calipers. Has anyone else had this happen? Could I put washers between the rotor and the hub to move the rotor farther out? What should I do?
