I just ran across this forum and have wasted half my day going through many interesting threads. It was suggested that I introduce myself so here goes. I am a retired Engineer (nerd) who loves cycling. I have about 20,000 miles of touring under my belt most of it on my old (1986) Schwin Voyageur. I have chriscrossed most of the state of Oregon, ridden the Pacific Coast from Victoria BC to Tiajuana Mexico also crossed a good deal of California. It has been very reliable and I have enjoyed it but it is being passed on to my Grandson who is going to college and needs transportation. Gives me an excuse to buy something new. I have decided on Trek 520 and will personalize it a bit.
I also have a Trek 5500 which I ride pretty much every day. I ride about 10 to 15,000 miles a year. I'm not fast just a old large man who enjoys the sport.
Next spring a friend of mine and I will ride the southern tier from San Diego to St Augustine. Looking forward to the planning and the execution and anticipating the let down when it's all over.
Thanks for the Welcome
