General Cycling Discussion - commuters and others: Kryponite skewer set

Does anyone use these? I saw them in the LBS a little while ago. About $ 50 buys you three skewers for the front wheel, rear wheel, and seatpost. They have a unique lock that secures them, and (supposedly) will prevent theft. Opinions?

I don't know about the Kryptonite ones, but I use a set of Allen Key ones and don't find the few seconds etc. to undo them a pain. After finding a QR undone I swapped, as much to prevent kids fiddling as to save removing the front wheel. A set that lock rather han just allen heads should be even more secure.

They also appear to be relatively light :)

Well I bought these, but the skewer for the seatpost is too small :mad: Won't fit :( IMO that was the best skewer in the bunch, as the seat's easy to steal, hard to lockup, and a pain to take with you all the time. The other two skewers work fine though.

On lockup bikes I prefer to use bolts rather than QRs (Quick steals).
Solid axles and track-nuts are less stealable.


How do Pitlock security skewers compare to the Kryptonites ?

I haven't seen the pitlocks yet, but just from their site I would say the kryptonite's look to be favorable.

I saw a pair of "QR's" that used an allen key as the lever. In other words, the lever wasn't attached, you used an allen key to turn the allen screw 180 degrees like a quick release. Not quite as theft-proof as the Kryptonite's but easier to deal with swapping a tube.

I've been searching and searching for these again but can't find them. Anyone have a source?
