BMX - any other middle aged BMXers?

A few observations after spending some more time on their site, and watching the video clip:

Yes, it looks like fun.
Did you see the used ones for sale? Rover engines? No wonder they're be sold with low mileage.
On the subject of low mileage, only the Brits would build a car with no roof or windscreen in a county known for wet weather.
Can you identify the music from the end of the video clip? I recognize it from Snatch. You know, the movie from Madonna's wife. :D If I recall correctly, it's from the hound/rabbit chase.

Yes, indeed it is that song. I particularily love how Jeremy's face flaps around as he's trying to drive the car around.

On the "no roof/windscreen" comment, one could say the exact same thing about the Lotus Seven and the Caterham Seven.

I would test drive one just for the facial contortions. Of course, my '68 Camaro used to do a bit of that too, but it was mostly your stomach that got all squishy. Do you hapen to know the name of that song, or the artist. I'm using that last word loosely.

Darin, figured you might like this thread, up until Beerman and I went off on a car tangent.

I'm about to be 39. My son (10yo)and I raced 2 years ago, but took a year off. We plan to race next year. We have a track at our house we are practicing on. It's really more of a straight track, it doesn't have any turns, but it has small statring hill, jumps and rythem section. We try to ride a little every day. I'm not into "tricks" really, I can't afford to be of work, so I don't risk too much in the air. But my jumps are decent sized and I enjoy jumping. They would be doubles, but my son isn't jumping that far yet, and tabletops are just plain safer if you come up short. I don't know when I'll be too old to ride, but I think I might be a tad past middle age at 39. But I aslo jet ski, wakeboard, roadbike, have a physical job, and play guitar. I still feel 20.

It kind of sucks that work interferes with fun. When I worked form home, I didn't race. Went back to an office job, started racing. Just can't win - not at work or on the track. :D

This is a quality thread. I haven't been on a BMX bike since Rad was on the big screen, and I have been amped to get back in the scene. I'm still a little self-conscious, because my riding style is a little below sucks, but I'm pumped to get into things again.

Cruiser = Old man's bike. Of course, we had his 'n' hers 24" race bikes. I'm 36 in a few weeks, she's nearly 40. From there it's easier to justify a 20" bike.

39 in a week and I live close to Beerman . maybe I can watch him shred when they FINALLY finish the Pacifica Skatepark (and if they let bikes in) .

Slowly building my final bmx bike . going flatland because a hard landing off a ramp or jump would shatter my brittle old bones .

I loved riding thru my teens in the early 80's and am amazed at how far this sport has come ! I just sold my 23 year old Quadalgle with flite cranks and DX pedals to invest in new parts .

It accelerates faster than a sport bike, actually, and has the fastest lap time on Top Gear's track; beating even the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT, and Maserati MC12. I would kill for an Atom.

I'd rather have a sports bike, 0-100mph in less than 5 seconds?

I'm 26.

I ride street as much as possible, with no sign of letting up.
I stretch during and after every session to avoid injury... and I wear shin pads and a helmet.

Oh yeah.. and I actually grew up with MTBs in the early 90s, because I lived in an isolated MTB/Ski town..I didn't realize BMX still existed until I moved to the city, and saw a ramp demo.

I'm 32, 5"11", 195lbs and I will never own a cruiser, MTB, or anything other than a 20" bike.

BTW, I am out of work on SDI till 12-5 due to a wrist injury from riding, so I feel ya on the not going too big because of the risk of being out of work.

I just borrowed a 20 from a friend. It feels very sketchy. The cruiser just feels "stable". I suspect the the larger diameter wheels spinning may be part of the reason. But the 20 I borrowed is only a 19"TT. Since the chart say I need a 22, that may be part of it too.

No, they're all sketchy coming from a cruiser. But a longer top tube means you'll have a bit of room.
