Bicycle Mechanics - Long throw quick release

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Everybody is aware of the safety tabs on fork dropouts to prevent accidental loss of your front wheel. Most roof rack systems offer long throw quick release levers so that you don't have to readjust the quick release nut every time you use it to carry your bike.
Is there any reason why a long throw quick release to clear the safety tabs wouldn't work on a bicycle hub? Does somebody even market one today?

Ummmm, Retro? I'm one of those that don't know what a safety tab looks like. :o Do you think a pic could be posted? Please? :) Thanks. (Sorry I'm so naive!)

Also known as lawyer lips. You can see them removed in this image:

Website shows that they're available from Quality (and thus your LBS), among other places.
