On the way to the Old Town of Riga to meet a friend for a drink my rear wheel started to make a strange clicking sound. As I was almost to my friends house I just kept riding on. About 500m from my friends house I heard the whoosh! that we all know and hate. Thinking that my side wall had blown out I stopped and looked. The rear rim had blown out, not the tire! It was an old Mavic touring rim with a lot of miles on it. Too many, I guess. Man, am I glad this didn't happen in rush hour traffic.
In a completly different incident I was WALKING my bike through a cross walk on Thursday when a taxi blew through the cross walk trying to get around me. I nailed his rear door really hard with my front tire (I was kind of jogging through the cross walk), effing up his door pretty badly and bending my fork. The bastard then drove off before I could get his license number. I hope it costs him a mint to fix his door.
