What a blast!
A couple of us headed down to a new Velodrome about 2hours West of Toronto (Forrest Hill Velodrome in London Ontario).
We were donating some Bicycles for them, and while there we took the "Learn to Race" Clinic that they provide. It was fantastic. Its amazing how quickly you can start to get comfortable with those 50degree banking curves.
It sure is intimidating....I've been riding Fixed for years, but I felt like I needed training wheels as the butterflies in my stomach started flapping on my first lap around the track...
I was "lucky" enough to get my first crash out of the way on this trip too. Right at the top of the 18foot track on the middle of the 50degree bank after a bad judgement call...and was taken out by another rider (thankfully, otherwise I may have gone over the top). No damange but a little track burn and a bruised ego...
Before crashing I was able to get some laps in that were probably around 50kph...and it feels even faster!
The cool thing was that a local videographer caught the tail end of the crash (the entire fall from the top of the track) on tape. So we saw it a half dozen times!
Anyways, it was a great day and I'm looking forward to giving it another shot!
