Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. OK, picture this:
You're on a fast Club ride, and for the first time ever, you're able to hang with the Big Dogs through the hardest hammer section. After all the other 'weaker' riders have been dropped, you're still there. OK, you're hanging on for dear life (with your tongue dragging on the road), but you're still there.
Here's the feeling I'm asking about:
When the Top Dog rotates to the back of the line and sees that you're still there, he (or she) has that look of impressed surprise on his face.
Because normally you're long gone by this time.
Been there?
Done that?

Sure, I've given that look, I usually nod or flash 'em a grin too. I try to be the ambassador of the Big Dogs.
When I was getting back into the sport, I was on the other end of the exchange.
Yes I have been there...
Imagine this senerio... A group of cat 3 and 4 guys attack from a group ride, already doing 28 MPH they get a 100 yard lead. Assuming no one will catch them they accelerate. As soon as the attack is seen I chase the group, hitting 34 MPH and catch them, all the sudden I bridge the gap and show up at the back of their group...
Here is how the translation goes... one looks back... where the h#$l did you come from? Oh I don't know? I say... Were you trying to attack? The other looks back, lets drop him, I say try it... we then percede to hit 37 MPH and I just sit in on their wheels for 20 seconds before they finally slow down... Your still here... yep... (dying at this point)... I don't go that easily... , Well they say, you are now officially a fast rider.
First time I knew I was an "A" rider!

Yeah, but I was more suprised I was hanging in than anyone else!

Funny you say this... it was like my first time riding in a seriously fast paceline. We were doing 32 MPH and I was right there in the middle of the line cruising along... it was great. I got the same feeling the first time I did a crit... hey we are doing 28 MPH and I am right there... wonderful feeling!
