after watching aspire (i believe it was round 2) i was like holy shoot, that song "i wanna rock" rocks so i went online and downloaded it. I didnt realized twisted sister also did that song "we're not gonna take it" so i downloaded that two. After listening to it 10 times and reading the lyrics im still not sure what its about, i have a feeling it has to do with old people sterotyping younger generations but im probably wrong because i do suck at life...shooty day...its a older song so although i dont know your exact ages i was hoping some of the older riders (ie. beerman, expatriate, bmxtrix) would be able to help me out on this one because its classic rock and im just starting to listen to it more than i have in the past. imput on the song, and any other recomended classic rock songs.

Classic rock? Try Crosby, Stills, Nash, and/or Young. ;) Also, try old Yes. Try old Genesis, back when Peter Gabriel was their lead singer. Get the Led out too, man! You can't ever go wrong with Hendrix either.

Those are REAL classic rock bands you can sink your teeth into.

Oh God! Classic rock! I think I was In high school when TS was making the rounds. I'm so, so, so very old right now.

That said TS was frickin' great at the time!

Not!

And if you're serious about metal, try Griffin, Proud, Cirith Ungol, Venom, of course Judas Priest and Iron Maiden can't be beat. The real Maiden with 'DiAnno singing, but Dickinson will do.

Twisted Sister = classic rock? Now that makes me feel old. I was in high school when their first LP came out, although they had been kicking around for a couple of years before then. I liked them, for what it's worth, but at the time I was into classic rock..Led Zep, The Who, Stones, Van Halen, Aerosmith kind of stuff. TS along with Metallica and Iron Maiden, among others, were a new hard rock sound that my generation was eating up.

"We're Not Gonna Take It" was pretty much what you think it was.

For what it's worth, maybe they rode 20"?

Not classic rock by any measure. But the videos with Niedermeyer from Animal House were spot on. With all apologies to Koffee, Hendrix is no good for these kids. They need simple beats and fast tempo. Metallica's "Fight Fire With Fire" is more their pace.

Glam rock=bad. If these kids want some old school stuff from the 80's when BMX got it's real start, here's a few suggestions: Anthrax, Keel, Slayer, Armored Saint, Fastway, Scorpions, Accept, and any of the old punk stuff by Agent Orange, and Black Flag (Even more current Rollin's stuff is pretty good.) I could go on, but I'll let someone else offer some suggestions.

I love Twisted Sister, but they're most definitely not classic rock. And glam rock isn't all bad (directed at Expatriate); just listen to Bowie's "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust".

Sorry Beerman, Ziggy's cool, I was thinking of those terrible hair bands that made up glam rock, like Poison.

Sas, if you like CoC, try Seven Mary Three. They're highly under-rated.

TS didn't cut their first single until 79. First LP was like 82 or 83.

Poison,Cinderella, and Motley Crue To just name a few, should not be considered Glam-Rock. These bands were" Big Hair metal bands of the 80's"

The true Glam-Rock was in the 70's and the most famous is of course
David Bowie. along with Gary Glitter, Slade, Sweet, T-rex, Mott the Hoople(Ian Hunter) and yes, even Alice Cooper is catagorized as Glam.

To me it was all in the make-up. The 70's Glam the make-up was outrageous, usually way over done.
The 80's big hair wore it to improve their looks. :D

KISS took their inspiration for makeup from Bowie, so I consider them glam-rock also.

Don't forget U2 came out in '79, they are considered classic rock also. Hard to believe 'War' is over 20 years old now.

No "even" Alice Cooper about it. Alice was Glam before Bowie. He was wearing makeup and women's clothing by the late Sixties. This is a continuing source of irritation to Sickthings (Alice's fans).

Okay, I just checked. Alice was wearing dresses over jeans onstage by March of '68. By then the band, under their first names of The Earwigs, Spiders and Nazz (they offically became Alice Cooper in March of '68 too) had already released three singles. Bowie's "Space Oddity" came out in '69.

I must dissagree. I am 19, and I know many people my age who listen to his songs. A curious thing is happening these days. Few bands are making good music anymore and younger people like myself are going back in time to whatever sounds good.

My favorite bands include:
Jefferson Airplane
Megadeth
Jimmy Hendrix
Heart
Metallica
Alice Cooper
AC/DC
The Rolling Stones
Ted Nugent
Guns N Roses
Rush
Motley Crue
Pink Floyd
Led Zepplin
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Blue Oyster Cult
Rammstein

For Glam don't forget the New York Dolls and KISS, who did manage to rock pretty hard in '76 (Destroyer)
Music wise you also need your Ramones on Vinyl, some Clash and maybe a little Killing Joke to round things out. Oh, and Dead Milkmen, some early, El Loco and before, ZZ Top, Dick Dale and The Ventures

To get some more of that Dee Snider feeling watch the movie StangeLand
