I can't recall if I've seen this bike brand flying around on this board or not, but I wanted to pass along a little info. An acquaintance of mine was riding her Kuota a few weeks ago when her fork unexplicably broke. No bumps, no potholes, no nothing. Unfortunately, she happened to be going 50km/h downhill and suffered some massive injuries - 9 fractures to her face/jaw requiring extensive surgery. She's doing very well, all things considered, and is even still planning on Kona in the fall (she's a pro.)

So, not to be too alarmist here... I just wanted to pass that along in case any of you, or someone you know, rides one of these. Hopefully it was a one-time fluke.

Where, how did the fork break? Was there previous trauma?

I don't know if there was any previous trauma, but I suspect the answer is no. (She didn't say in her email and I haven't spoken with her directly - like I said, she's just an acquaintance.) But she did say that her bike was new and the fork "collapsed." That's all I know. She said that even afterwards, there was nothing wrong with her wheel, and that it was even true when she put it back on the bike.

Again, probably not a widespread problem, but I thought it worth sharing.
