I've got a Trek 4300 that I'm pretty pleased with but looking to make a small change. It comes with a Bontrager Sport stem with a 25deg rise. That sits a little too high for me and I'd like to stretch out a wee bit further. I've already moved the spacers to above the stem to see if I'm comfortable reaching a little lower and it was a huge improvement in comfort. Here's my question...
I'd like to buy a new stem, 10deg rise or less with between 110mm and 120mm length. Am I better off just going back to my LBS and paying them $29 for a Bontrager Select stem or is there something better and or cheaper out there? I notice that on Nashbar I can get a Easton EA70 for $19 (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=119&subcategory=1186&brand=&sku=11736&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=), which after shipping would be close to the same price. Is the EA70 a better stem or pretty much the same? Any other suggestions on stems? With the 4300 I obviously don't want to spend too much $$ but at the same time really want to get the different stem to make it more comfortable without buying something so cheap that it's careless/dangerous. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have.
