Well lets see where do I start? I started riding again about 3 months ago. I bought an older Nishiki road bike at a yard sale for $10.00 . Took it home and replaced some parts here and there and started riding 3or 4 days a week. Shortly after my 1st week or 2, I dicovered the pleasure of Padded riding shorts. I experimented a few seats before my butt stopped aching. I still am not sure if it is the seat or the fact that I just got used to being on a bike again. Either way I am glad that Idont get sore anymore. I have been wanting to get a newer bike with a better frame and components. And the other day I found a Cannondale R1000. Believe it or not it was at a pawnshop and the guy wanted $450.00 for. So I offered him $350.00 and He took it . What a barg! I noticed a few things about it right away. 1st it the Mavic rims that originally came on it were replaced with an Araya on the front which for now will do. But on the rear was a no namer with a 6 speed cassette, so I will have to replace that. Then I will replace the front and get her tuned, then I can hit the road. I live in Northern Ca. just outside of Sacramento. Sac has great bike trail that runs along the American River. It is about 30 miles long. The trail has some great scenery is well marked and there are no Cars or trucks. So far I've gotten my daily mileage up to 35 miles in little less then 2 hours. I would love to be able to finish a century, not win mind you but just finish. Anyway I am glad I found Bike forums, and I look forward to reading more postings in the future. And to leave a few of my own. Later.

Welcome to BikeForums.
17+ mph!! With a few more miles in the saddle you should have no problem finishing a century.

WELCOME.

You should have no problem with a century, given you get up to 60 miles or so.

FYI, no century in which I have ever participated has a "winner." To win is to complete the darn thing. I am sure there are folks who compete with each other, but I have never seen any awards given out for "winning."

Perhaps others have. Anyone seen a century "winner" award?
