i am going to be doing a bunch of freeriding on this bike on all sorts of terrain. would it be a very good idea to get a full suspension bike or a hardtail is just as fine?

i am not going to be going off HUGE drops

what are the pros and cons of the two kinds of bikes? besides one is softer casue it has full suspension

i am between a low end fsr and a high end rockhopper

Well the truth is neither one of them is going to hold up well to freeriding. They are both xc bikes. If you are wanting something geared more to freeriding check out the P series or some of the Haro's such as the Escape 8.2 or 8.3. Also check out the Haro Extreme X1 or X2. Haro makes great bikes, especially for the price.

What exactly do you think freeriding is?

thanks for the heads up on the fsr and rockhopper. mybe i am not doing freeriding i just took its meaning for the what the word is 'free' i am going to just be riding around on whatever i would like to be doing a bit of downhill. is a cross country bike more or less used on flat and easy going trails.

easy, i am a newb :(

i looked at the p.2 and i am waiting to get on it at a bike shop as i am a little skeptical of the seat and how low the frame is swept in the back

Watch that video clip. Thats considered downhill and generally needs a downhill bike. If youre not going to ride like them or ride hardcore on stunts, drops, etc.. then it sounds like you will be doing more XC than anything.

XC is nothing to be ashamed of, thats actually what most of my riding is.

Start off with a hardtail. Itll help you hone is alot of your necessary riding skill. Alot of people overlook the simple stuff like steering, balance, pedaling, etc..

I would say go with either the P2 or possibly the bigfoot. If u cant afford those the rival is ok but if you can then check out the norco 125

If you have a crappy fork on a hardtail, learn to use your back brake and land on your back end on drops, then let down your front end.
Not saying I am really good or anything the biggest I have done is 5 feet to flat, but the teqnique is the same.

thats a big pile of BS i rode a POS walmart bike for 4 years and it helped me develop alot of key skills. ya it sucked but it didnt slow me down at all. im doin big gaps and drops now. it has nothing to do with the bike you just suck

get a hardtail to begin, less to worry about. you can focus more on your riding. once you decide you need more bike then save up and get a good FS

Not quite - but close to - must have, if you ride in rain or mud.

Not needed if you want ease of maintenence, lighter weight and ride in dry conditions.

There are actually some disc brakes out there that are as light as most v-brakes. I run the Magura Marta SL's that are extremely light weight. Light disc brakes aren't cheap though.
