Hi all - I've got my first triathlon, a sprint-distance tri, coming up soon.

Given that it's my first tri, I don't really give a hoot about my time, but I do want to be relatively efficient during the transitions.

Please critique my race day plan:

Show up wearing: aquasocks, tri shorts, shirt or sweatshirt (top to be removed before swim)
At run-to-bike transition: remove aquasocks, quick towel off, add socks, bike shoes, and bike shirt
At bike-to-run transition: Remove bike shoes, add running shoes

Do people generally just leave a duffel bag next to their bike in the transition area?

I presume there's a general honor code, or some sort of supervision, so you don't have to lock things up.

FYI - Water temp expected to be 68 F.

Thanks for any help.

For T-1 skip the towel off. The wind on the bike ride will dry you fast enough :).

I setup my transition area on a towel folded in half. On the back half I put my running shoes.

On the front half I stack the following items: bike shoes, then socks, helmet, sun glasses, jersey. When I arrive at the transition area I sit down, towel off my feet just enough to get the sand off. I then put on jersey, sun glasses, helmet, socks, bike shoes and then I'm off.

Generally speaking you shouldn't worry about your stuff in the transition area. I have never heard of anything coming up missing in any of the triathlons I've done.

but he is wearing socks on the bike....so maybe a quick towel-off of the feet would be a good idea. then again, it's a sprint. so blisters probably won't even have time to delevop...
i would opt for having a towel ready and toweling off if it seems necssary - more because of sand and dirt on feet than wetness.

as zack has mentioned you forgot helmet and sunglasses, and perhaps gloves (personal preference).

at T2 you may want to have a hat or visor handy, depending on the weather.
