hello all. getting ready to pull the trigger on a new ride. i'm going to throw a few names out there, would love to hear some opinions on:
bianchi axis v.
jake the snake v.
cannondale (bad boy ultra, front shock, outsider of the group i know) v.
orbea terra v.
colnago dream cross v.
felt F1X.
i know, i'm really focused here. basically looking for a fast, durable bike (badass looking doesn't hurt, either) i can tool around town or race with. budget tbd depending on how much i like something (i know the colnago is at least twice these others, but i'm prepared in case i fall in love.)
i realize this is broad, but that's just because i don't know much. thanks for any replies!

i LOVE my axis but damn i'd throw it in a river for a chance to own a colnago. i don't think i'd swap it for any of the others on the list tho.
colnago? You threw us for a loop there. No contest, it's got the bling factor.
But at the price you could already get a custom frame:
Steelman
Rock Lobster
Sycip
Soulcraft
Vanilla
Kish
Curtlo
Regardless, it's the motor that'll make you fast...
well, that's two for the colnago. funny, the first thing i noticed about them was how cool they look. can i ask what the big deal is? handcrafted v. assembly, materials, snob factor? is it really that much better a bike?
hadn't thought about custom frames. how much would i have to drop for one with some pretty good hardware? seems like that might be better than just tossing a bunch of dough at the p. diddy ride. (incidentally, i was guesstimating the dream cross at somewhere around 2500-3k built up. am i in the neighborhood?)
but again, i haven't been around bikes in years, so i know squat at this point. i have to say, i've read a ton of good stuff about the axis. definitely in the running.

On the Colnago, you will have to use a top pull front der; it doesn't come with a pulley so that you can use a regular road front der. Or you would have to buy a clamp-on pulley; I think Cyclocrossworld sells 'em.

I'm sure the Colnago is great, but pretty fancy for a durable, tool-around-town bike.
I would think the bianchi cross concept would be a better comparison than the Axis as a light, fast, race specific bike.

You will get a custom Strong for $1200 plus build kit - less than you will pay for a Colnago - it will be custom build and infinitely higher bling than an assembly line bike.
Custom Curtlo is $950 plus fork and build kit.
What about the CrossLight (Kinesis Easton evo. Carbon seatstay)
Looks like great value for the money.
Kona has also, I think, a Scandium/Carbon frame. Retails <= $600
BTW. Asked a question about new CX fork. Ended up with the Alpha Q CX.
Looking forward to get it. Just about to shave of 2lbs on the CX.
That’s goanna bring it down to around 17lbs. Think I'm goanna notice ?
you're probably better getting built up bike like the Cross Concept or similar. If this is an all arounder, you might not take advantage of the custom features.
Curtlo gets you in the range.
Maybe even a used IF like I did. Got it for $1K on ebay.
Check out www.hottubes.com. You can get a custom frame that is surprisingly affordable.
check out the redline conquest pro. would have been my choice had I an extra $500 to spend.
