I notice Zabel is in there alot...but when is the last time he actually won? Has he EVER beaten Petacchi?

Paris-Tours 2003. I'm sure there were many, many other times - Petacchi only became a God-like sprinter one or two years ago, but his career has lasted much longer than that.

Grand Prix de Frankfort this year.
The guy's 35, been a pro since 1992 and has 191 career victories. He races nine months of the year and rarely has a bad word to say about anything. Few people in the peloton are more respected.
As others have said, he is a class act.

Zabel's a gamer. Races anywhere, anytime. My favorite aspect of any rider outside of just being plain good which he is. If he had a lead out train like Petacchi does, he'd win more races.
Petacchi has the best sprinting form though. Other guys show some good form, but they'll flail, their rear wheel dancing all over the place. Petacchi, as powerful as he is, is very quiet. Doesn't look like he yanks the bar much, the bike doesn't move laterally in excess, back flat, head is still, really puts the squeeze on in his downstroke.

That is really great about him. Petacchi's train leads out Petacchi, and Zabel sits on his wheel. He gets the benefit of the Fassa leadout, and has the advantage (or so I am told) of being second wheel in the final break for the line. Unfortunately lately he has just missed a few times by less than half a wheel.

Zabel races the six day circuit in Germany during the winter, he's always racing somewhere. He is amazing!

In final sprint finishes, you always see Zabel somewhere in the picture...even if he doesn't win. That says a lot considering the length of his career.
