I have my regular biking gear(jerseys/bibs) for rides, but for commuting I want a cheap shirt with no letting that goes with most of my bibs. I purchased a McDavid lycra shirt at a sport shop that has the tight fit, no pockets etc. The bad thing about the shirt is that while the shirt is tight, the colar is a touch loose - bugs can get in at times. Is there a simple source for a cheap shirt that has the tight fit and lycra type material? I cant see dropping 50-60 for a bike shop jersey for my commuting.

I'm a daily commuter with that had the same problem, I looked and looked, then a couple of years ago I found the cannondale vertex jersey cat# 28059 in plain color with no lettering to be just what I needed. They do have the three pocket thing but the neck is tight and they do have a zipper to open when it gets hot. I pay around $30.00 at the LBS. They come in quite a few colors check them out, I think you might like them.

WalMart has a coolmax type fabric pullover shirt in their Starter brand. About $16. I got a bunch. I can only find them in red, white, or yellow.

The ones at walmart - are they the snug fitting type shirt. I dont like to wear snug fitting bibs/shorts and have a baggy top, looks odd to me.

Nikos,

I'm kind of porky, so I bought mine in XL. I don't know what the smaller sizes would look like on you, I just know you wouldn't want to see me in one.

What you need is a surfing rashguard (yeah, yeah, I know it's not exactly easy to get in Madison). It's a form-lycra shirt with flat stitching and raglan sleeves for ease of movement. The collar is about the height of a mock turtleneck and tight! Usually, it is worn under a wetsuit for added warmth and protection from chafing. They are very well made because they have to be able to stand up to a lot of action in the ocean. The good news is that they are relatively inexpensive--about $25 shortsleeve and $30 longsleeve. If you get one, use your true size. If you're medium, get medium. They are meant to be like a second skin. The only online resource I know is www.swell.com or call 1-866-255-7873. I know this sounds like a weird idea, but the rashguard fits the criteria you mentioned.

Suggest you review this site. Their Tee's are very comfortable in 100% Coolmax. They also have snug fitting shirts of 10% and 30% lycra which may suit your needs. They are all plain.

Went to Walmart and picked up 3 Starter shirts in the coolmax. Heck they were on sale for 8 bucks. Blue and black and one in white/black. Size small worked great. Thanks for that lead.

Nashbar and Performance always have plain jerseys for under $25, although I don't think any of them are actually made of Lycra (seems a bit too slippery to me....)

Just today I bought 2 wicking fabric shirts from Target for $20 for the pair. They have no sleeves but cover the shoulders, called Prospirit, mine are bright YELLOW, not my color but being seen is better than looking good.

Purchased two rashguard shirts at Sams at 14 a piece. Very tight fit - with a mock turtle neck stylz and the sleeves are down to the elbows. I think these will work out perfectly for me. No pockets, but for the commutes or a 14 mile run around the lake on weekends, no need for pockets, just a bottle and repair kit under the seat.
