Introductions - Another newbie from Texas (Temple)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi All,
I recently moved to Temple, Tx. and decided to start riding to work as much as possible, after about ten years of not riding. I will be starting my Emergency Medicine residency in July, and I want to intergrate some excercise into my daily routine. There may not be much other time. I just purchased a Specialized Expedition (? a comfort bike?). The ergos seem to fit my 6'6" frame pretty well.
It looks like I will have about an 11 mile round trip commute daily, and I have already learned a great deal from perusing the forums.
I also have a circa 1994 Schwinn High Plains, that I have been dragging around with me since I stopped riding, it was my previous commuting bike. I have found that the bike (couldn't be me  ) ergonomics have changed over the last ten years and I cannot tolerate as much weight on my wrists and lower back. I think that I will strip it down and use it as a trail bike. I need to find some trails though.

Great site; Thanks for all of the info that I have already gathered, and will probably gain in the future. I hope that i can learn enough to contribute as well.

Derrick

Welcome Derrick.
Good choice on deciding to bike commute. My work background is in medical equipment repair so I've spent lots of years in hospitals and have seen many residents get out of an exercise routine because of time demands at the hospital.
Good luck with the residency.

Welcome DerrickC. There are some challenging trails in Cameron Park in Waco or you could try BLORA (Belton Lake).
