Hi everyone, sorry if this is the wrong section to post this in but its the closest I could find to match my topic, heheh. I am moving to West Hollywood for school in September and will go nuts if I cant get out and get a good bike ride in after class every day or at least every other day. Are there any bike routes or decent sized parks I can go riding around to get a decent amount of exercise in that area?

More specifically, I will be living near the center of the Hollywood Production district near Vine and Santa Monica Blvd. I don't know the area AT ALL but will be starting class almost immediately when I get moved down there and will be commuting on my bike so any advice would be appreciated. Gonna be long hours so I need to get some good riding in and I dont wanna be riding all over hollywood on the busy streets if possible.

Thanks!

Welcome to Los Angeles!!! I was born, started biking, and still living somewhat near West Hollywood. I can only start by letting you know that this side of town is very congested with cars, cars, cars (after all, this is L.A.). I would like to encourage you to take the red car to your destination if at all posibble. When you can't, take Lexington Ave. especially between Vermont and Virgil (the street is very wide.) Some other routes are streets that run alongside a busy thoroughfaire (seems fewer and fewer each passing year). I have seen bike riders take to the sidewalks if need be, although I try to avoid this practice. Get a good street map like the Thomas Brothers one and do a dry run sans bike through during the time(s) which you are planning to ride. Try to take the advice of the serious urban communters located in this particular forum for the latest, up-to-date best tips on using your bike through thick vehicle traffic and best of luck!

Welcome.

Hope this (http://www.bikemetro.com/home/home.asp) helps. I don't know the zip code for West Hollywood, but maybe someone else can help. As for decent sized parks, try to find a safe route to Griffith Park.
