Yesterday I had my first bad fall. I was going off a jump that was about 2-3 feet high over a gap of about 3 feet. I had done it about five times before that day with no problems. Anyway after I launched off i didn't get a good hop and push the bars forward so I was going to land directly on my rear tire(you probably know where this is going). I managed to just catch the edge of the fairly steep, short landing. This caused my tire to shoot out from under me and throw me to the ground back first. The bike came down on top of me but i really didn't feel that. When I realized what happened i went to get up and it hurt like nothing else, i could barely breathe and my sight/hearing were both a little off. I saw a white haze and could barely hear anything. I also came out of it with a good sized cut down my back, a bunch of cuts actually. Thankfully I was ale to walk away without any other injuries (i forgot my helmet that day).

lol, hell ya! I had a pretty good wreck too not long ago. I was doing a jump about 3 feet high doing maybe 30mph as soon as I hit the jump I knew I was going to wreck I hit it wrong going way to fast and my poor front tire said **** you and threw me over the handlebars then decided to do about 3 more flips. I was able to get up but my back is totally ****ed up talk about some road rash lol

I agree with DMN, 3 CATscans later still to stupid to wear one of those goofy ass helmets, but what can you say to a hard-headed teenager

Guess in my mind, helmets are for speed and real trails. It's not the safest idea around but I'm willing to take that chance. ...if I mess up I can feel stupid twice over.

why not just wear the more "fassionable" Protec helmets? I used to use them for skating, and work perfect for riding. :D

Plus, they feel just as good as wearing a hat.

I broke my collar bone by hitting a tree shoulder first. Got to ride out of a very busy state park in a loud and flashy meat wagon. Should I wear a helmet AND shoulder pads

I always wear Helmet and full Knee/shin pads when pushing things as far as I can. More of a confidence thing than safety - knowing that if I push it and lose control my head/knees will live through it. I've already had one operation on my knee, I don't want another.

Fair point but I always play safe when it comes to keeping my body in check.
