Been lurking long enough - time to start contributing! :)

Name's Andy, 30, and have been trying to put as many miles as possible on my Trek 1500 since I bought it last spring. Funny though, the road-cycling-addiction-insanity didn't really hit me until this spring. Now a day doesn't go by that I havn't spent a good amount of time on here, oogling over pretty shiny new gear or in the saddle. Minneapolis has a great Greenway trail system that allows for some quick-paced, long treks without TOO much fear of kids or dogs running around loose on it.

Have done the Ironman 3 times (only the metric century.. still working up to longer rides), with the first two being on my old Gary Fisher Mountain Bike (very first time with full knobby tires.. bad bad idea). Still pushing to reach the point where a steady 21+ mph is do-able for an extended period of time, but for now I'll settle for 18 :) After all, it's about the voyage, right?

Good weather, light winds and safe riding to you all!

Haven't brought the bike up to that part of the woods yet.. heck, I'm just hoping for the sun to stay out a little longer to dry out the paths after this mornings rain.

And you've come to MN to vacation... from Hawaii? Something's not quite making sense there.. heh

Hawaii is only a temporary imprisonment. I'm a Northerner - gimme cool dry air and marshes full of cat-tails and red winged blackbirds! :D

my brother just moved to minneapolis for an internship, he likes biking but is still getting into it... meaning, he hasn't learned the way of the fixed gear... could someone in minneapolis pls entice him to get started on building one?? he thinks he's going to smoke people on his 14 spd because fixed gears "only have one gear" ???/ lol wtf...

I am in Minneapolis/Uptown. I am looking for a suitable frame to begin a SS/Fixed bike to supplement my '73 Schwinn Speedster 3-speed and (NO LAUGHING, I like this bike for the paths around the lakes ) my Electra Townie 3.

I see SFC and NYC with some prefered SS/Fixed bikeshops. Is there a prefered in MPLS?

The Hub and One on One are great bike shops for SS/Fixies. And I always have good luck at Penn Cycles on Lake and Aldrich. Freewheel is another great shop that understands fixed gear and single speed.

Don't forget Chuck and Steph at Behind Bars in Nordeast.
