BMX - Photos from Aussie BMX racing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This weekend was the qualifier at our local track for the nationals. I thought I'd take my camera out and get a few shots. These two are pretty much uninspired, but hopefully I'll get some better ones tomorrow. I had to leave before the races started, so these are from practice. The 2nd one looks like the guy is Photoshopped in, but he's not.
[edit] Comments are welcome, good or bad.
Here's a couple more. I suppose next time I'll stop shooting into the sun, as the artsy effect of the lens flare gets old quick. Oh, 9 time Aussie champ Luke Madill was there. Easy to see where he gets the nickname Dr. Smooth. I wish I had gotten a few photos of him racing.

pretty cool. was it an NBL race or ABA?
that is a beautiful track
Compared to some of the tracks I've seen in the US, we're very spoiled. I've been told it's one of the best tracks in Australia. I'll try to get a really wide shot today.
Kinetik - It's in Australia.
The first shot is a bunch of girls that really fly. Not the best photo though. The 2nd shot is from the bottom of the first turn.
Here's some jump shots. One was taken during racing, and the other is my friend Matt. I race against his dad, who I think has raced at the national level in the past.
Wow, they get so much air! The track looks very looked after.
Here's a couple more shots of guys mucking around on the track after the races.

Yeah, I've got some photos of the track too. I'll get them posted soon enough. I think the track was done up extra nice for this weekend.
Ok, here's the track. First shot is from the gate, 2nd shot is taken from the 1st berm showing the 2nd and 3rd straights, and the final shot is from behind turn three, the finish is at the upper left.
[edit] The photos are uploaded backwards.

Not that I know of, but I have a video of some from in the US. The Aussie boys do know a thing or two about DH though. Come to think of it, Mick Hannah's little sister does too. The more I look at other tracks, the more I realize we have a really nice track. The surface is really hard though, I don't like coming off at speed.

Yes. And yes, one of the best.
Everyone say goodbye to Josh now. He doesn't play nice, and isn't welcome here.
[edit] Josh has poor self esteem and bad manners, so his comments were deleted. Racist comments of any kind are not tolerated.
Racing comments are always welcome. :)

You just click the SPAM! button and report it to the mods. Hopefully they'll have deleted that by the time I get up in the morning.
[edit] Josh was some punk posting unacceptable comments. The mods kindly deleted them, and him.

Yah man , that is one sweet track, i wanted to get into racing bad wen i first started but the closest place that has a track to where i live is a few hrs away by car plus i cant aford a racing bike right now, but yah man nice track and nice pictures
Sucks not to be close to racing, but you can still practice just about anywhere. I sprint around the park on my bike when I go for short rides with my wife.

yah there is some parks close to the river by me and people have built little tracks with table tops and stuff but it dosent compare to being able to ride a real track, its so much fun
you're making me wanna try this...not another bike, my wife will KILL me :)
Climbo, you're welcome to come out and take our spare cruiser for a ride. My wife and I went back to that little quarry off Pacific Hwy, and just played around on the jumps in there. But if you want to come out early on a weekend, we can probably sneak onto the track.
nice, thanks, I'd love to try it anywhere, I need more jump confidence ! I see the local kids down at out track on the weekend just go out and ride it, no actual racing goes on. Might have to sneak over there with the MTB one morning...
Agreed. I'll take my MTB to the track one day, after I've gotten a bit more comfortable on my BMX. We need some giant banked berms out on the MTB trails too. It's heaps fun flying around them at speed.
Here's a few more. Girls racing, which is actually some of the more exciting racing to watch, and a shot of the little future champs.
Should I post more? Anyone else have any good racing shots?

No local racing this weekend, so I'll go through my exisiting photos and see what else looks good. I should have some more shots next weekend too.

You realize that American Bicycle Association and National Bicycle League are American, not Australian, correct?

Always warm? That's makes you geographically ignorant. This is the coldest winter we've had in years, and it's very cold right now. But the track is sweet, no argument there.

No offence but im sory you dont no the meaning ov cold. its cold here in winnipeg. australia dosent even get snow that lasts, try living here in the winter wen half the time is ovr minus 40 and its too cold to even stepp outside becuz the risk ov frost bite is like 1-5 minutes. i would kill to live where the snow dosent fall and it never is colder than minus 20. uve got it easy for shur

Wow, that track is groomed. Lot wider and not as tight as my local track, either. And it looks a hell of a lot better.
Nice shots too, looks like a lot of fun. Someday maybe I'll get some photos of our track and some people riding it.

And apparently the schools don't do a good job of teaching you how to spell. People expect Canada to be cold. That's a fact. Not everyone realizes that Australia is not always hot and sunny, and the seasons are backwards as well.

It's a fast track for fast riders. They've made the jumps bigger to try and slow them down. Riders can hit 50Km/h going into the 2nd turn - that's aroumd 35MPH. As far as grooming, it was extra nice for that weekend, but it's always well taken care of. The club president was out there this weekend doing some work by himself. He (and the rest of us) takes a lot of pride in the track. Feel free to add your own photos. I should have named this the "BMX racing photos thread".

yah but you make it sound like its to cold to do any thing sumtimes wen here your cold weather would b considerd warm. as far as the skools go there not bad im just lazy and i have adopted bad typing habits, no need to make a big deal out of it as long as you can understand what im saying..i mean noone els does right... lets just try and get along
When it's so cold that your glasses or goggles fog up inside your helmet, or moisture condenses on your goatee, it's too cold for me. Also, I live in a 1920's house with no heat, no insulation, and wood floors. It's not like we can go for a ride, then go inside to warm up - it doesn't happen.

It was built in the 1920's, in Australia. Central heating was unheard of back then, because Aussies are a tough lot. It's 46 degrees INSIDE my house this morning. We have a little electric heater for the lounge room, but you can't leave it on at night, or when no one is around, because of the dodgy house wiring. Now you know why Ugg boots are so popular here. On the plus side, we've got chicks in bikinis shopping for their groceries at Christmas time. :D

Aussie's are only a tough lot because you're all the offspring of criminals!

Oi! I'm American. But I do have Russian Mafia relatives.
Here's a few shots from today's racing. It was getting dark and cold, so I didn't stay long.
Here's a guy busting some air off the first jump. The other 2 shots were taken when it was really too dark to get a decent shot. I don't use flash, as I'm not looking to cause any crashes.
Anyone else have any race photos?
Lee, are you going to the track this weekend?
I hate bumping my own thread, but it's raining, so no new photos this weekend. Rain sucks.
thats a nice track, can i come and live with you
