i have never raced yet there is a 17 mile race 1 lap tomorrow a.m. in my town , i scitizens the starting point i sthis a good start. its late already yet i am thinking of doing it. any advice in these last hrs.
Get to sleep. That's the last advice I can give ya.
Tomorrow, eat a higher carb breakfast, like a couple of bagals and some whole grain cereal and some juice (100% juice, not the nasty stuff). Then give it an hour or so to digest before you get to the race.
Be sure to give yourself a good warm up. It's a short race, so give yourself 45 min to an hour to warm up. You want to get your heart rate through all the different zones- which means you'll take your heart rate from a low of about 60% heart rate max to a high of about 90% heart rate max in the last few minutes of the warm up. Warm up in the shade on an indoor trainer, and drink lots of water so you aren't dehydrated for your race.
Finally, carry a few packets of Gu. For the final few minutes, you'll need that sudden spike for the extra energy for the big sprint.
Get to bed!

Whoops... good luck! Report back how you did tomorrow evening.

i didnt even know they had the citizens class. i wentto the crits today and saw the citizens class there pretty open.
i imagine in the road race i would get lumped in with another class low turn out. it seems like this would be a good expirence.
Try to stay near the front of the pack, but draft when you can and then break out at the end and sprint like a fool when you get in the last 500 meters. Come in with a strategy. Most of those dudes don't, and that will give you an advantage. While you're drafting, watch them closely and see who's strong and who's weak. Stick with the strong ones and draft off them and figure out how to break out in the last few km.
