Published June 3, 2005, 3:36 PM CDT
A 28-year-old Chicago woman died this morning when she fell off her bicycle and was run over by a truck in the Wicker Park neighborhood on the city's Northwest Side, authorities said.
The accident happened about 9:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Division Street, police said.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded but found the woman dead by the time they arrived, WGN-Ch. 9 reported.
A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office identified the victim as Alicia Frantz, of the 1700 block of Augusta Boulevard.
Police were investigating. No citations had been reported as of this afternoon.
Did anyone know her?

Well it says in her profile she's 32. The lady in the article is 28.
What I want to know is how do you just fall off your bike and under a truck?
Reminds me of one of the ex wives to the mob. "She was found dead with duct tape around her head. Police suspect suicide."

Yeah, but people fluff their ages both ways. She knows a few folks that I do and they're from the area where the accident happened. It's a leap but I just wanna know what happened.

A friend of mine. Best friends with some other good friends of mine.
I'm shocked.
A benefit and a fundraiser at Rodan is on tonight.
PM me if you need details about stuff.

How about you are riding VC style, in the travel lane and your bike malfunctions, or your cleat breaks or the chain wraps around the derailur because the plastic guide wheel fails or anything else that might cause you to fall or lose balance, such as a pot hole or rock. At that point you have fallen in front of a moving vehicle... what do you suppose will happen next?
Of course the blame can be directed toward the cyclist (in the usual manner) due to lack of proper repair... and the motorist "just didn't see the cyclist in time."

True, cept more often than not, it turns out to be the driver's fault.

Can you post the benefit info for those of us who can't make the event? Maybe we can send something along in her memory or whatever.

My wife used to have a commute to work which crossed through one big valley and she worked at the bottom of the next, so 3 pretty grueling 500ft climbs each way. Anyway, on the way home from a long day at work, half way up the last climb on a very hot day her shoe lace had come untied and started wrapping around the pedal shaft. By the time she realized what was going on she had ground to a stop, was unable to pull her foot off the pedal, and was weighted wrong to use the other foot. There was traffic so she lunged off the side of the road in a pile. My wife is accident prone and this type of thing happens to her all of the time.
I too have made the lunge, just about the last time I ride w/o rolling up my pants.

and people wonder why some of us always wear cycling specific clothes?

Probably true...
Except usually the cop on the scene... sides with the driver.

Probably even truer.

The cop has the statement of the driver, but cant get one from the cyclist. He doesnt have to take sides if no other witness makes a contribution. In aircraft accident investigation, its usually pilot error if the pilot doesnt survive.
