Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If you dont know I have a MGX DXR (one of those heavy mountain bikes from Wal mart) and I was reading the lesson from hansrey.com for the bunnyhop on a mountain bike. I can hop about 7 inches max from lifting both my tires at the same time by jumping up with force on my legs and body. There is no way I could even come close to broncoing that bike( pull up to manual, then hop off back tire) because its so heavy. I explode and jump like you should on a mountain bike, but can bronco a lighter BMX bike. Is there any way I can bunnyhop my heavy mountain bike higher with any tips or will I just have to jump higher and use more force. Or get a lighter bike.

Or keep trying and get strong. Or learn to move your body back faster which generates more force to lift up the front.
Seriously though, sounds like this is a strength thing, heavy doesn't really apply if you don't have the proper form. Guys can bunny hop quite high on 45 pound dh bikes ;)

Strength and practice. When I got my ride I could just get the front wheel up an inch or so, but forget about the back. Now, three months later, I can easily go 1.5" :D No, I'd guess comfortably I can pull the front up a foot or so, and can manage a bunny hop over anything less then a high curb. Maybe 4-5 inches.
