Bicycle Mechanics - Can I replace my Shimano free-hub body with a Campy compatable free-hub body?

I have a pair of Shimano WH-550 wheels with a Shimano freehub body. It runs on a Campagnolo drivetrain, frankenstiened together with a Shimano cassette using Campy spacers. I'd like to replace the cassette, but I think I'd have trouble finding a Shimano cassette (which I can take apart and add campy spacers to) compatible with a Campy 8 speed drivetrain.
So I was thinking it might be easier, if possible to replace the shimano freehub body with a campy freehub body and get a campy cassette. Is this possible?

As sydney said, no, it's not possible to swap out cassette bodies.
In my opinion, you shouldn't need to. I'm running Record Ergo shifters with Record RD and Shimano 8-speed cassette (including Shimano spacers), and have no shifting issues at all. I've even run a Shimano 7-speed freewheel with it with no problems.

Sometimes the cog spacing is close enough it wdorks, sometimes it isn't good enough for some people. If the spcing difference is about 2mm, that's usually close enough. The ARs will argure all day and prove it with math that it won't work, when in fact even Sheldon Brown and others in the business say it does.

8-speed.
There's nothing wrong with it being a frankenstein setup. It works. My point was that he doesn't necessarily have to go through all kinds of trouble to make it work. Sometimes it will just work with no problems. What's the worst thing that could happen by simply trying it out? At best, he'd save money. At worst, he'd have to buy a whole new wheel.

He's actually apparently already doing it and may be less than pleased with the results. Some peole are more picky.

Marchisio cogs can be used for Frankenbike transmissions. You can use a Shimano spine with Campy spacers or visa versa.
Torelli are the distributors.

I have a SRAM cassette with a Wheels Mfg. spacer kit on my 8 speed Mirage setup, and it works beautifully on my Spinergy Xaero-X wheel.

Thank you all for the replies and advice. I'm now looking for an 8 speed cassette (Shimano or Shram) that's deconstructable and advice on where to find this magic cassette would be great, as I'm actually having trouble finding one new.
Right, basically my current set-up (if I wasn't clear) is an 8 speed cassette with the Campy spacer kit. It works -ok-, but definitely my biggest hang-up with my bike. I'd like to eventually upgrade the shifters, fd/rd, but that's costly when you can't/won't go back to Shimano (I use to be so happy with Shimano until I started riding this damn italian crap).

At every source I've come across, Campy Ergos are always cheaper than Shimano STIs of the same quality (sometimes substantially). The rest of the drivetrain might not be this way, but the shifters seem to be one pleasant exception.

If your bike has a Campa 8-speed setup, and you want to use a Shimano rear wheel, you could always put a Shimano HG50/HG70 7-speed cassette on the Shimano freehub. Campa 8-speed spacing is identical to 7-speed spacing.

Hello Brian, I have a Sram 8 spd cassette, 11-32 that has individual cogs.
If you need customs spacers I can make those for you- you just tell me the dimension you want them.
I make custom small parts as well as unique, time saving bike tools. ( my dial indicated tools will actuallt teach you how/where to true your own wheels )
you can call me at 760-379-2133, Paul Morningstar;)
