Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

On june 5th at 7pm, across from pac bell park in San Francisco, my girlfriends 1 day old 2004 53cm bianchi giro was stolen right in front of borders. Its the traditional bianchi celeste green with an aluminum frame and carbon fiber seat stays. This bike was her only transportation. If you see it around please email me at colinf at tmail.com
Thanks everyone,
Colin
man thats terrible. How did they get to it?
Next saturday you need to cruise flea markets! When my debernardi was stolen a few months ago some random lady said she saw it at the concord flea market the very next weekend.

another bitter reminder for redundancy in locking up.
Ugh. Sorry to hear that. 1 day old... reminds me of my old MTB that got stolen a few years ago. It new and exactly a week old. Just about cried.
Good luck.

Damn, right after the inaugural ride to Marin!
Holy crap! That was fast. How was it locked and was anything else stolen? I know there were two other nice bikes locked up there as well. Man, that is total BS. I'm pissed, lets cruise around with bats tonight and see if we can find it.
That was a nice bike too...
Edit: go cruise down to UN plaza and see if it's hanging off of any shopping carts down there. Also go to the bike path behind the safeway on church. We saw a homeless dude getting arrested with a shopping cart full of bike frames there last weekend.

And this has to do with fixed/ss how?

Someone's bike was stolen, this is the only forum he frequents or knows people on. Don't get all forum-nazi about something like this. Maybe the mods will move it, but hopefully not, a stolen bike is a little different from a post about something else totally off-topic...
Underneath the mission st 101 offramp, 13th street I think it is. A few guys down there with bike carts. Also on Treat St behind Best Buy. I'll try to keep an eye open as I go past both those on my ride to work.

ditto.
those dudes yell at me if i stare at their bikes for too long though. one day i would like to give them a taste of their own medicine (not crack) and steal back all those bikes.

As per the thread being off topic:
Sorry, but I posted here and the road forum as there are a ton of people from SF here. I'm just trying to get my girlfriends bike back, you'd do the same thing, no?
We already shook down tons of the usal bums, but got nowhere. The bike is hot and no one would let the parts go that fast cause its grand theft is they get caught. I'll paste the test from the road forum of how the bike got stolen. Let this be a lesson to everyone out there!
We locked it with a cable. Since she just bought the bike, she didn't have a ulock yet. My friend and I had our two bikes next to hers with ulocks, and she had just the cable. We were just making a quick stop in a nice neighborhood, so we figured itd be ok for the moment. I was actually sitting in the window watching the bikes and saw a weird guy go up next to my bike. I leaned forward to cathy and said something about how he didn't look right and then we ran out the front door. In those next 15 or 20 seconds the bike was gone, so they must have had a van or something. They cut the cable fast with bolt cutters and rode up on a mountain bike that wasn't there when I went out, so they must have had at least a second guy. My friend and I rode off looking for them, but nada. The only thing I could think is they dumped it immediatly in a truck or van.
Ahhh! That sucks so much. I feel bad about not going to Borders with you guys now. My chain would have probably prevented this. Damnit.

argh. what a heartbreaker!
i'll be keeping an eye out.
im telling you guys. its time to set a trap, either an exploding bike or an ambush. It sounds like these guys go around doing this crap.
I'm totally, totally down for some vigilante justice. If anyone has a plan, let me know.
Also, Kamil, send me a PM, I sold the IRO...
Concord flea market this Saturday. Seriously. If it was a professional job, There is a reasonable chance they will be there. some details withheld.

that story leaves me speechless! living in florida keeps you sheltered from things like that..maybe someone might steal your bike off your porch but never anything like that. i can't believe that happens. good luck!

I've got a good lead on a sketchy ad posted on CL last night. If I can arrange a meeting with this guy, is my only hope just paying cash for the bike or has anyone ever gotten a cop in on it?
If you've got the serial number and stuff, I'd definatly get the cops involved. That could be just me though.

Who would want it back now that it's tainted by a thief?
I would just buy the girl another Bianchi Giro and write the theft off.
quick ways to claim bikes when confronting thieves (with cops or heavies):
1: know your serial number, have it written down. The police like this sort of thing.
2: when you're setting up a bike or doing repair, but strips of paper (preferably laminated) everywhere you can with your name and contact info on it. (inside seatpost, tubes, hbars, tires) I've had a shop call me after they found my name and number inside the seatpost of a bike someone sold them.
3: etch your name/drivers' license number/phone number/ etc into some parts. (especially good for bikes w/o serial)
ps: sign me up for the bike vigilante crew! I'm missing two bikes (and I'm pretty sure they're at karim)
