Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

BIKE RIDE / SHOWS / VEGAN DESSERT BAKEOFF / BBQ / SWINGIN’ DOORS
June 18th - Ride: Gainesville to St Augustine / Solid Pony, Des_Ark, Tubers, Witness the Fitness, Silent Game @ Loose Screws 8:00 Vegan Dessert Bakeoff TBA (info below)
June 19th - Ride (tentative): St Augustine to Gainesville / Solid Pony, Cassette, Des_Ark, Tubers, WTF / Swingin’ Doors, BBQ: @ Common Grounds 5:00
It’s about 90 miles to St Augustine, probably take the north route through Melrose. Not planning on being in any kind of amazing hurry so you don’t have to be ballsout fit or anything, just have a bike that you can ride comfortably. (If you can do the whole Hawthorne Trail and be smiling at the end of the ride and the next morning, you should be ok; generally speaking, your upper limit is three times a normal ride.) We’re gonna leave hella early mornin. My bike is rigged for a trailer, so if someone’s got a boombox and some Thin Lizzy tapes…
We’ll likely hit at least some rain on the way so be ready for that. There’s no shame in fenders. We should be able to get rides worked out back to Gainesville. If you plan on driving and will have extra vehicle space, let me know. Places to crash/camp shouldn’t be a problem.

Thanks for the announcement.
I've been thinking about going. I'll either have to get my Alan road bike built back up or attempt it on my pursuit bike (with mtb riser bars, maybe?).

Seconded. This ride sounds badass. I would do a 90-miler in a heartbeat for a good show and some vegan baked goods.
i do occasionaly wish i was still living in gainesville sometimes..

Yeah, I've been kinda slack about promoting this, prolly should've been doing exactly this a couple weeks back. Eh...
This is the first time I've put a "ride" together or anything, so if there's anything glaringly absent up there or any other random wisdom, holla.

I've got some moustache bars lying around if you wanted to snap something comfy on there quick-like. Ditto some syntace C2s with the 1" riser things, great for getting more upright. Ditto some of them little Spinaci things I got on the tourer right now, could just have them anchored up on top of the handlebars rather than in front.
All of which could be done with a few minutes and and allen wrench, so if it comes to that--

either of those have a 25.4 clamp diameter?
...or i could use an old, shorter cinelli stem i have for the Alan -- 26.4, i think.

I've honestly no idea, you might have to find the specs online somewheres....

I checked it out and they're both 26.0. I'll look around town, see what Niles has lying about. I really want to pull this off.
Do you have any idea how many people might show up?

Not sure. Only about five so far including myself; just a handful really. Hoping to get around dozen? Something like that.

Yea, they are. Des_Ark member Tim had two fixed gear bikes stuffed into the van. One was a brown steamroller built up really nicely: chris king hs, nitto bars and stem, sugino 75's, brooks team pro, campy hubs to graphite deep v's. nice and solid.
good people.
EDIT: They also had great t-shirts for sale: a track crank and chainring, arm pointing south, with "Des Ark" making up the spider. I probably should have bought one or two.

Wow. Props for putting this ride together. I grew up in St. Aug and it's good to see that people are doing something besides hanging out at Wal-Mart or on St. George Street...

This will happen again. Try and promote it a bit better, plan a little further out... the BBQ happened pretty much in spite of me, so that's either out completely for next time or outsourced to better hands. I am not a grilling soul.
Developed pictures later this afternoon, maybe up online tomorrow somewhere.
Looking verrrry tentatively around Oct 1-2 for the next time around. I'll start making some small noise in about a month, see what's the best time for anyone. Traffic would be better for us during the week, but depends on work schedules and such.
Etc.
Adventures...
