I have my first ever tri this sunday, sprint distance, 400M, 14.6, 4.4. The swim is in a local quarry. I think that it is a snake start (as I have heard them called here, is that the official name?) at 5 second intervals. I estimated my swim time at 10 minutes, which according to last years results, would be the fourth slowest time out of 300ish. So, if I start near the end as expected, what can I expect in the first transition. Will it be mostly empty since everyone will be on the bike almost? I don't think people will be back from the bike quite yet, so will that be a benefit? I plan on taking it fairly easy and enjoying myself, although once I get going I am sure that will go out the window. One more question, when they say the bike course is open to traffic, do they stop traffic at the major intersections to let cyclers across usually. Otherwise I can just see it as a big game of frogger to get across without losing to much time, how does that work?
