Training & Nutrition - Question for the hair impaired?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Now that it's summer time. How do you protect your dome? Been doing the do-rag, but seem to be overheating I would appreciate any and all recomendations.

Coolmax cycling cap (from Headweats) underneath the helmet works fine for me.

What there is only 2 bald guys here? Sunscreen but the kind that doesn't sting when you sweat and it rolls into your eyes.

As soon as I started to thin out, I begain shaving my head or clipping it really short. The hair might be going, but it goes now on my terms!
Headsweats brand are the best I've found. Suprised you find it hotter - I find it far cooler with the skull cap on than without. If you're really having trouble, maybe try a white one?
Far better than sunscreen/sweat running down your face and stinging your eyes or getting burned on the top.

Just a helmet with nothing underneath. The helmet provides partial shade and lets air flow through. To keep the sweat out of your eyes, nothing absorbs sweat like a feminine napkin. They even have a sticky strip to adhere to your helmet. I recommend the unscented. :D

I wear a hat. My "I love strippers" hat always gets me plenty of looks when I wear it.

I have been shaving my head for around 7 years. I use sunscreen and a sweatband.
Has anyone tried the clif bar helmet liner? Jusyt wongering if this would work as well as headsweats.

bald ex-husband always just used sunscreen. He liked bullfrog brand cuz it stayed on.
I'm fairly bald on top. I also started clipping very short after the hairline receded. It looks way better than to have bushy temples and long scraggly hairs.
Anyhow, I don't use anything other than my helmet, and I haven't had any problems with the sun. And I live in the southwest where the sun is strong and ever-present. I get more tan on the rest of my body, using 45 SPF, than I do on my dome.
The only thing I have problems with is when a bug gets inside my helmet. I freak out.
I took my usual helmet to the LBS and compared with other brands, selecting a Giro as its vents were where the solid part of the other helmet was, so the 'tiger stripes' on the scalp even out a bit.
Scalp cover probably a better idea though. Steve
I have found I really like the headsweat covering. I got it to avoird "helmet hair" and it worked better than I expected and seems to leave my hair dry - my hair always was wet with just the helmet so it's even better than expected. I also find it cool, though the temps here have only been in the mid 80s.

I use a wicking skullcap. I rode 30 miles in the sun without it last week and didn't sunscreen my head thinking the helmetwouldn't let much sun through. Wrong! I now have two sunburn stripes down top of my head. My coworkers are having such fun with that.
I've got the same problem/blessing that a few others here have. I started going bald and I just decided to keep it clipped short. I personally love the feeling of clipping my hair and don't hate the fact that I'm going bald too much. I just wear a helmet and use sunscreen. The sunscreen I use is Coppertone Sport spf 30. I spray it on my head and it doesn't get in my eyes when I sweat. Haven't used a skullcap but I don't think I'd like it. But then again, it's just now starting to get into the heat of summer. We'll see :D
I wouldn't know...
I have a full head of thick, curly hair... :D
thanks guys!! Ended up ordering a couple of skull caps with a mesh top from under armour. If it ever stops raining I'll let you know how they work out.

I fold a Handi Wipe to fit under my helmet. The mesh breaths OK, and to date has done the job kept the cabeza from getting burned. I use Bullfrog gel on the exposed body parts. I like the gel much better than the lotion.
