Mountain Biking - RST any good?

i know comes with all the ****ty low-end, x-mart bikes... but i see them with treks as well, and it seems like they have some high end stuff... my question is, are they any good? <== dur....

I had one of the 1st "air" forks available back in '94.... It was was a Rapid Suspension Technology (RST) 600. It leaked somewhat, but overall was a good fork for such a new invention on bicycle forks....

Nowadays, I have NO idea how good the RST line is.... Sorry

I can tell you...they are CRAP! Let's just say that its turned into a rigid on my old bike.

Middlish. But these forks are ok if your not going to do any 5-10 drops. And to slightly answer your first post, many bike companies use these forks on their lower end bikes because it makes the bike cheaper and more affordable. People may just swap the fork anyway so why put and good one on if the rest of the bike couldn't hold up?

i've got an RST fork. it's o.k. i wish i'd sprung for a Marzocchi - but the RST was less than 1/3 the price.

so, you get what you pay for. i ride XC exclusively on that bike, btw. no jumps/drops etc.

My Raleigh M60 came with a RST 260 fork and it has served me very well. It is about 6 years old now, and has all sorts of nastyness when you pull up the boots, and pronounced "bad" by my mechanic, but it still does a great job. they get my thumbs up.

RST's are alright imo... i sort of outgrew the fork... i did 2 years of xc, and as my style got more aggreisve the fork gave in... its snapped on the arch, bye bye rst :(

i am very new to riding, and i obviously have a beginners bike. It has RST forks and they are the only part of the bike that i'm not very pleased with. i only weigh 175 and RST's don't feel strong enough for me.

It depends what RST fork you are talking about. I recently installed a higher end one for a customer and was shocked at how plush and tunable it was. The Gila T4 rivals a Judy TT in my opinion--haven't had to warranty many and seems fairly stout. Like any company, you pretty much get what you pay for.

Indeed, the RST gila is a better fork, and like seely said would sort of 'rival' the Marzochi Mz Comp and Rock Shock Judy. RST do make a lot of less expensive forks to go on cheaper bikes, but they do make a few good ones I think.

i have the gila T5, and maybe it is justy me but i wasn't to impressed. It could just be me though. What is the T5 equal too?

The low end RST stuff, like what you find on cheap bikes is really, really bad. However for XC, their higher end stuff isn't too bad, by no means great though. It should be told that we as riders all owe RST great thanks. Thanks to the Delta (think that's the one) they made a cheap, good internals (for the time) long travel fork. This move made all other fork companies lower their prices, also the Sigma wasn't too bad.
