Road Cycling - How many of you use a work stand? Is it worth it?

Just ordered a cheap work stand from Performance Bike. It was 34 on sale - so I thought it might be worth it. Cleaning my bike, especially the chain, its a real hassel having to hold up the back end to work things through. Any other helpful things the stand does for working with the bike?

I intend to get one at some point. I have a total of 5 bikes between my girlfriend and I. I think it would save time and hassle. :)

A stand can really be a lifesaver and can make working on your bike more fun.

It's also great as a hat and coat rack;)

I wouldn't kow how to at without one. As many bikes as I work on it is essential. The only thing I do not do with it is true wheels. I have a stand for that.

I bought a Wrenchforce stand back in Feb for my birthday, can't believe I wrenched on my bikes for 15 years with out one! Used cord tied to joists in garage or basement before. Or sat on ground. The clamp is not as nice as the pro Park ones but more than good enough. This one has a folding base and adjusts for higth as well, well worth the $100.+ I spent. One warning, if left set up it does take up quite a bit of room.

Yes they are indeed worth it. I use the Park Consumer Stand. I have assembled 2 bikes and wrenched on bikes who knows how many times. Though I do know the last time was last night and the next time will be tomorrow morning.

Cost $99 from one of the internet sources (I think the BikeDoctor) and along with the blue metal thingee to hold your bars straight is one of the better purchases I've ever made cycling specific or not.

I agree. I also have the Park Consumer Stand. It's amazingly useful for everything from cleaning/lubing to major and minor adjustments. All the small stuff gets done more quickly when you can just throw your bike into the stand.

once you've had stand you'll never go back.

I use a Minaura mstand and it is useful even when changing tyres.

i also use it to display my bike (so i can walk around it and admire it ) as it means I can park one on top of the other.

I just picked up Cyclepro stand with tool tray.
Figure it will save me all sorts of stress/strain
when I begin building up frame (as soon as the
last of the parts get shipped).
Can't imagine building bike without it.
