General Cycling Discussion - changing tires

Hello,
i have recently purchased a pair of 2005 fat boy slicks for my bike in signature. I really will enjoy them for my roadly riding but on the weekends i think im gonna hit the trails. MY question is will changing the tires 2 times a week hurt it? Also can you give me a link to a rim compatible with my tire 26x1.25-2.20

Well I dont think it willl harm anything. I run slicks in the weekdays and knobs in the weekends for the trails, been doing this sinch march and no problems

cow do you have an independent set of rims for each tires?

Changing tires twice a week is OK. Some people get flats more often than that.

I've never heard of anybody having problems related to frequently changing tires.

If you think that you'll be doing it that often, however, I'd be for getting a second wheelset complete with it's own cassette just to reduce the PITA factor.

No i dont have 2 wheelsets, one for each tire.

dont another set of rims cost $$? I am on a very low budget :D im not even legally allowed to work yet.

I've damaged a tube or two when changing tires, but I've never damaged the rim. You might want to have a couple spare tubes around in case you put a nick in the tube or the stem as you're changing. It's good to have a couple of spares around, anyway. In a few weeks, you'll probably be changing the tires as fast as an LBS wrench. Just continue to be careful.

I really HATE changing tires. I put my Panaracers on for Autumn/Winter, and my road slicks on Spring/Summer. I guess i've improved, but changing them twice a week would start to p**s me off. Although if your a really hardcore rider and ride races weekends and road weekdays, regular chaning would serve a prupose.

does anyone know where i can get rims for my bike? I looked on ebay but i am not sure if they have to be a certain kind.. any special factors to take into consideration?

My original rims are Alex DM-20, 26"x1.5", double wall, black ... know anywhere to get these?

I'm very lazy when it comes to changing tires. :D I wait till all the tread has gone, then i replace.

rims not tires

Get another set of wheels to put your other tires on. 1 set for the slicks and 1 set for the knobbies. This way you don't have to take the tire off the rims twice a week, you will just have to change the wheels.

i am planning to do what everyone is talking about.. the two wheel set... but i need to find a good price on rims. Where can i get those?

Also look up a few posts and read wat my original rims were. Is it possible to buy those rims from somewhere?

Yup. A second wheelset will certainly cost more vs. the bother of taking 15 or 20 minutes or so to change out the tires twice a week. If you are trying to minimize the nuisance factor you can't just throw on any old set of new wheels either. You have to find a wheelset that is the same width as your other wheelset. Otherwise you'll have to readjust your brakes every time that you change wheels. That might take as much time as changing out the tires.

well i have disc brakes so it doesnt really matter on wheel size :)

I got so tired of changing tires for weekend/weekday rides that I just started to leave one set on when I got lazy. Not the best idea to run slicks off-road, they suck but it does make for an interesting ride, heh. I finally bit the bullet and went second wheelset, now my chi flows normally again. Discs make it even easier to switch back and forth.
