Hello,
I own a specialized 2003 hardrock pro. I was wondering if you could give me a link or name of a book for illinois trails. Preferablly near desplaines,glenview,niles,parkridge,morton grove. If not ill try my local bookstore but online links and maps would be great.

Do you have a library? Library's have sport sections, sport sections usually have something about hiking and maybe even mountain biking in your state. Just look at hiking trails if thats all you have a book for

They have nice reviews of the best trails around Chicago and neigboring states.

CAMR's website is probably the best resource I've found for trails in the Chicagoland area. I second rjagodic's suggestion.

The Des Plaines River Trail is close to you, but it's not very technical. I'd look into traveling to Palatine and riding at Deer Grove or down to the Palos forest preserve for some great trails.

If you're new to the sport, you'll probably want to find someone who can show you the basics. It will save a lot of wear and tear on your shins, arms, etc... Try checking out a basic mountain bike instruction manual like William Nealy's EXCELLENT cartoon style book.

If you're up for a little drive, try this place : http://www.outbacktrail.org. We work hard keeping the place up. And it's well regarded by a LOT of Palos area riders who prefer driving to Portage, IN over riding the local trails.
