"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Broke a chain on my way to my first practice crit

I've ridden x thousand miles without breaking one. Argh. Why why why?

Ok, there's really no point to this, other than I was excited to have a go at a criterium, and now I'll have to wait for the next one. I volunteered on the course and watched. Better than nothing I guess, and by the looks of it the B race speeds looked totally manageable, although that can probably be deceiving from the sidelines.

That just sucks!!!! I know, (in some small way) was almost home about 3 more miles after a 90 mile day and my chain broke. Walked home, coasted where I could.

Don't worry about it, there will be another. At least it did not happen to you at a race that you paid for... that would suck!

Maybe. Unfortunately, I possess neither the tool nor the knowledge to make it happen. Perhaps I will gain those things soon.

oh man, that sucks. my biggest fear is getting a flat just before the race, since i'm not so fast at changing them. it never crossed my mind that my chain could break. that's just horrible luck. and yes, i would say that observing from the sidelines is very deceiving.

Ahh, Good things come to those who wait.
However, the view from the sidelines is anything but what it is really like in the peleton. Somewhere around here is my first race report, which talks about the "Dynamic" of the peleton. From my new found knowledge this season, no matter how many group rides you do, nothing can prepare for the action, smells, sounds, etc... of what actually happens inside the peleton.

Keep us posted on how it goes, and remember just when you are about to get dropped, suck on to that wheel for just another minute, and then you'll be there when the pace settles.
