General Cycling Discussion - Cycling has made me Bi

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have been a keen cyclist for over 15 years and love it so much that I have begun to fancy both male and female cyclists.
When about my daily business I am attracted to women, but have had relationships with male cyclists in the past. All the other sports I get involved in do not have the same effect so I am a little bit puzzled by it.
Just thought I would share that with you all.
Dooby
If it makes you ride well, it's ok.
If you find your average speeds decreasing, I would investigate the possibility that it is a shallow attraction to shaved legs.

Yup, it is definitely a leg and lycra thing. It can put on a few MPH and that's for sure.
It's funny because cycling is not reknowned as a 'gay' sport.

I suppose they don't call it a Bi-Cycle for nothing then.

maybe you should try body building as well- lots of gay guys are into this for obvious reasons

Gay guys usually avoid 'Bi' men, besides the gym is not much fun.

I can only speak for myself, but I'd say this thread would be much more interesting had it been started by a female. ;)

I didn't really expect anyone to go 'me too', but I suppose its just a sign that cycling is one of the sexiest sports out there.

Well, that's a new one on me! My attitude about sexuality is pretty simple, just have fun, be responsible, and leave the hangs-ups to other people.
Gay guys usually avoid 'Bi' men.

(Assuming that was meant for me?) Hey, don't sweat it. I actually get along better with bi and straight men most of the time anyway.

This is why I refuse to wear lycra shorts and shirts. It just looks really gay. I don't have a problem with other who wear it, I just can't bring myself to do so. I ride with no shirt, cross trainer shoes and my camo surf shorts and a baseball cap flipped backwards. It looks a little more masculine. It's kinda a "grunge cycling" look.

You refuse to wear it because you think another man might be checking you out? I'm willing to bet you're drawing much more attention to yourself with your current duds (or lack thereof) than with any amount of lycra. :D

Cycling can change your orientation.....wow, haven't heard that one before. My grandma's tried to convince me to go to therapy since the day I told her I'm a lesbian...maybe I'll convince her to by me a new bike..... :)

By the way, Doobie, cycling didn't make you bi. You were that way to start with. Cycling just gives you the excuse to check out lots of fit, toned, shaved bodies in spandex of both genders.

Bi people are truly beloved of God, as are cyclists. You are double-blessed.

Good going. No way would anyone think you're gay with this look.

Yeah, I wish.
Just look at the shoes and the ass accentuating pants, right along with the cod piece up front, and tell me we don't look like a bunch of frigging flamers.
Although I don't mind much, as I dress pretty much like RockinAR.

I've always been jealous of people who are bi. Being bi doubles you solution set. For people who don't like math, that means you're twice as likely to have a date on saturday night.
Good luck to the OP, more acceptable partners cant be a bad thing now can it?
For those who are so afraid of being thought gay that this will dictate their wardrobe, I think its time for some therapy, best done out the closet.

I think is more a fetish thing, sure you have to be in two minds in the first place, but swimming, surfing, running and even diving does nothing for me. Everything to do with bikes though is such a turn on that gender makes little difference to me.

If you are gay, then you are gay. If you are bisexual, then you are bisexual. Biking didn't have anything to do with it.
If you are a troll, well then you know what you are.

Well then, you have to find a nice-looking bike to romance this weekend. Simple solution.

You do realise that some gay men (like me) love that look? You're probably getting checked out by a lot of guys in that outfit!

I don't entirely agree with that. Sexuality is more complex that a simple label, and more fluid. We are all capable of atypical behaviour, some people more than others. There is no need to read too much into attraction to a person/gender/type/whatever outside your normal interest range, whether or not you act on it.
No one freaks out if they're in the mood for wine instead of beer once every few years. Why should sexual attraction be such a big deal?

I'd agree, for example, a lot of people do things out of character when intoxicated and many things are situation dependent.
I have met a few cyclists who feel the same way as me about the sport and lead 'straight' lives normally, only having realtionships with fellow sportsmen.

I wonder if some of it could also be attraction to a fit, healthy, toned body. I mean face it: outside of models and actors we don't see many healthy bodies in our society! Health is very attractive in a primal way. While I normally consider myself to have no sexual attraction to women whatsoever, there have been times when I found a woman attractive enough to notice. For example I used to go to college with a woman who had an amazing stomach- flat, toned, six-pack, etc. I'm not sure I would have had sex with her, but that stomach was hot.
This is all getting really OT for a cycling forum, but its a fascinating subject.
This thread is funny.
Incidentally, i have a tendency to stare hard at passing cyclists even when i'm a pedestrian or in a car. I'm nearly always checking out their bikes, but several people, including my mom and my girlfriend, have asked me why i'm constantly checking out the guys in spandex!!

Hmmmm, I'm straight, I really enjoy being straight and love checking out women whereas men regardless how fit and toned they are do absolutely nothing for me, and I'm 100% secure in lycra even if a gay guy or two check me out it doesn't bother me either way tho I don't particularly like it..... seems that I'm in a minority group

I'm also straight, but I don't care who checks me out. Doesn't bother me a bit if a gay guy checks me out. I'd take it as a compliment, and if he said the compliment out loud I'm secure enough to thank him. I would politely move on, but I would appreciate the compliment just as if it had been from a women. The only difference is that I'm probably checking the woman out at the same time. :)
I really think it's funny how some people are so caught up in what other people might think of their actions or words. I wear lycra, and I don't care what it makes me look like. It's comfortable. I have no problem hugging my brothers, including my youngest brother who is gay. I have no problem describing a good-looking guy as a good-looking guy, although my standards in that regard are simply based on how I'd like my own body to look. It's hilarious how some guys are terrified of even thinking any of the above lest they be labelled as gay.
Hell, just be yourself.
