Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

hey, i just recently moved down to this area from boston.
i was wondering if theres anyone living around here who could tell me if there are any good bike shops around that sell track frames and parts.
i've asked around a little, but all everyone rides is $100 k'mart cruisers. (which i actually think is amazing!!)
any help would be sooo useful!

thanks!!

cycle classics (http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Bike_Shops/Cycle-Classics_Va.htm) in portsmouth carries lots of EAI track stuff. that's where i buy my cogs. you may wanna call them first, 'cos sometimes they keep weird hours. east coast cycles (http://www.eastcoastbicycles.com/) in norfolk doesn't stock anything, but they're able to order most surly & dura ace stuff, plus they build a killer set of wheels. hope this helps.

I dont know if they stock track stuff, but Fat Frogs (http://www.fatfrogsbikes.com/) is my favorite local shop, they are friendly and usually have some of the best prices. They could probably order whatever stuff you need. They are probably pretty far out of your way though, if you life in Norfolk.

So are you in Norfolk now? If so you should meet the local fixie freaks. There are a few of us around! :D

thanks for the help!
I wasn't sure I was going to find anything down here. its just such a change, coming from a city like boston.
I'm actually in virginia beach, but norfolk is only about 10 minutes from where I live.
I really want to hit up some estate sales and score some old gem.

you know, I moved down here hoping to get a lot of distance on my road bike, but its still spring and this heat is crippling and the roads seems hectic and unsafe. I guess I'm a little discouraged, but I have only been here a week.

hi, i live in VB as well. I know Fat Frogs doesnt sell fixed gear frames. the cheapest FG they could order when i asked was the felt one for over 1k

You should check out Conte's, its in Hiltop. supposedly alot of the employee's ride fixed, and they carry atleast one (Langster), so i'm sure they could help you out.

North End, at the oceanfront, is my favorite though, nice guys.

i can't remember the name of the place in vb, but in the kempsriver shopping center next to a subway sandwich shop, there's a place that occasionally sells tracks stuff. decent stuff sometimes, too -- i know someone who picked up a pair of phil woods and got his spokes rolled there for his wheelset. i want to say the name of the place is hdk? i think? sorry. don't go to the place behind lynnhaven mall -- they mostly deal with cruisers and such and you'll think they're idiots if you try and talk to them about track bikes (i have no idea what you're talking about, most track bikes have a freewheel...)

i just realized that if you just moved into the area, you might have no idea what i'm talking about. sorry if the places i told you about confused you. about hdk, if you're in vb it's off of indian river rd on your right (which you can get to easily via ferrel pkwy or lynnhaven pkwy) or if you're coming from norfolk: 64 EAST and the indian river east exit and it'll be on your left. good luck and i hope a track bike won't be your only method of transportation in that area -- ick.

that's a helluva bump.

hahahaha For reals!

victor, I might be wrong, but any bike shops in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area I know of don't carry any Bianchi or Cinelli ss/fg frames.
